Reasons behind exaltation of Moon in Taurus – Basically, Moon represents our Mind and Taurus is the sign of wealth, assets, conveniences and securities/safety of life.

 

Wherever Moon is placed in our chart, if we involve ourselves in the activities related with that house/sign/nakshatra then our mind finds its peace and balance. Mind never wants to live under fear or uncertainties of life. We always want to be in convenient positions in life. Even a thought of any instability or a change brings a reaction from mind which wants to resist that change.

 

It is understandable too because if your time and energy is only going to deal with instabilities of life then when you are going to utilize your time and energy to do something meaningful and productive in life?

 

This is why Moon finds the best environment for growth and development in conveniences, luxuries and wealth of Taurus. Especially when we know that Moon’s favourite wife is Rohini, then it looks more logical if Moon is exalted in Rohini Nakshatra. But Moon is exalted in Krittika, why?

 

It is because of mythology involved with Krittika. Krittika is Nakshatra where responsibility of upbringing and nurturing of Lord Kartikeya was given in the hands of seven Krittikas. They took care and nourished Kartikeya and safeguarded Him from demons who wanted to kill Kartikeya. So, if we see Krittika Nakshatra has all the characteristics of a loving and caring Mother. And that’s what Moon represents; i.e. The Mother.

 

Hence, Moon finds the most favorable environment, as per its own nature, in the nakshatra of Krittika. On the other hand, Moon in Rohini is actually a Moon which is drowned in affluence, pleasure and luxuries of life. As Krittika is representing identical characteristics which Moon represents in its highest representations, Moon is considered as exalted in Krittika.

 

Why Moon is exalted at 3 degree of Krittika Nakshatra in Taurus sign? – Now again, Krittika in Taurus sign is 10 degree long. Why Moon is exalted in Krittika Nakshatra at 3 degrees Taurus only? It is because Moon goes into Aquarius sign in D-9 and D-10 chart if Moon is at 3 degree of Taurus.

Again, let’s go back to the basics –

Aquarius is sign of serving humanity.

Moon represents taking care and nourishing others. It is easy to take care of your own child. You are supposed to do that. You don’t do any favour on anyone if you are taking care of your own child. But what Krittikas did? They took care of Lord Kartikeya who is Son of Lord Shiva. Moreover, they took care, looked-after him, nurtured him and protected him from Demons, so that when he grows up then he can slay those demons and protect other Gods. So, the whole purpose of nurturing Kartikeya was to serve some higher humanitarian purpose. Hence, Moon gets exalted at 3 degree of Taurus only.

 

Conclusion – As I see, these are the reasons why I feel Moon is exalted in Taurus sign and Krittika Nakshatra at 3 degree.
