Let's 1st understand what these planets represent on their own?

Mercury - Mercury represents communication skills, marketing, calculative ability, younger siblings, hobbies, skills with hands, intelligence, quick decision making, logical thinking, youthfulness etc.

Jupiter - It is the most benefic planet and it represents all the auspicious things like Knowledge, Wisdom, Law, Guru, Spirituality, Religion, Philosophy, Literature, Elderly People and Children etc. For a girl, Jupiter also represents Husband.

Meaning of Mercury-Jupiter Conjunction – Mercury and Jupiter are enemies to each other due to mythological story of Pushya Nakshatra where Jupiter adopted Mercury but had a feeling of frustration towards Mercury as Mercury was not his own child. Mercury also feels frustration towards Jupiter, Moon and Tara as because of these three, Mercury had to suffer the ridicule in the society. So, there is an enmity going on between these two planets. At the same time, it is not a deadly enmity like Saturn-Sun, Saturn-Mars or Mercury-Mars. It is an enmity which only leads to frustration. It is like being with a person whom you don’t connect with but still you can tolerate his presence for a while at times.

So, this frustration of enmity would show its results mainly in relationship matters where person can have frustration towards their partner. Many a times, people having Jupiter-Mercury prominence in the relationship matters have the exact same complaint towards their partner which Tara had with Jupiter that her spouse was not paying attention to her. If Parent-Child relation also has Jupiter-Mercury then it can again lead to similar frustration which Jupiter-Mercury had towards each other. They can also adopt the child.

At the same time, Mercury & Jupiter both represent Teaching & Counselling. So, this conjunction shows someone who is very learned, knowledgeable and in academic field. This shows a person who is forever student & teacher and always likes to collect & share information. His knowledge base can be super high. He will work like Teacher, Professor, Preacher or Guru. He will travel to different places to get his knowledge. He can have a very wise or spiritual way of communication. They can be excellent counsellors on any life matter. So overall, it is a knowledge-based conjunction and knowledge will be regarding the house/sign this conjunction falls in. Like in 2nd house of wealth or in Venus ruled sign, person can have excellent knowledge of Finance, Wealth and Investment but in 9th house/12th house or Jupiter ruled signs, it can be knowledge regarding Religion and Spirituality. In 8th house/Scorpio, it can be knowledge related with Occult. 

This conjunction works best in Leo as Jupiter & Mercury both will be in friendly sign. 

In Aries, Cancer, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces, Jupiter will have a hold over Mercury as Mercury is losing dignity in these signs and Jupiter is gaining it.

In Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius, Jupiter's energy will lose direction due to its weak dignity and Mercury will have an upper hand in this situation.
