Counterparts Series - Krittika-Vishakha-Anuradha

So, let’s understand the next set of Nakshatras which are in front of each other; i.e. Krittika, Vishakha and Anuradha.

Krittika – Krittika Nakshatra is from 26.40 degree of Aries to 10.00 degrees of Taurus. It is nakshatra of criticism, cutting things, surgeries and bloodshed. Also, it is nakshatra of child care, secrecy, research, protection and foster parenting etc. It spreads from Aries to Taurus. It is ruled by Sun. Vishakha – Vishakha Nakshatra is from 20.00 degree of Libra to 3.20 degree of Scorpio. So, Vishakha Nakshatra is in front of Krittika from 26.40 degree of Libra to 3.20 degree of Scorpio. Vishakha is nakshatra of counselors and guides. It is also nakshatra of split or partition or different direction. Anuradha - Anuradha Nakshatra is from 3.20 degree of Scorpio to 16.40 degree of Scorpio, It is a nakshatra of following heart's desires or being devotional about something or someone. As we have always seen that mythological stories always play an important role in interpretation of Nakshatras, so it will be worthy to reproduce the mythological story of Krittika Nakshatra here. Although, Vishakha and Anuradha Nakshatras don’t have any direct mythological story but they are connected with devotional love of Radha and Krishna. Mythological story of Krittika Nakshatra is here –

Krittika Nakshatra - As per ancient story, Gods were losing battle and their territory against Demons. Gods went to Lord Shiva and requested to protect them. Lord Shiva told that he directly cannot do so but he can produce a Son who will take care of Gods' needs. Hence, Kartikeya was born with the soul purpose of fighting the battle on behalf of Gods. But he was just an infant and when Demons came to know about the purpose of Kartikeya's birth, they tried to search him and kill him at the infancy stage itself. Under these circumstances, Kartikeya was given to 7 Krittikas or 7 Sisters who were wives of 7 Sages to take care and protect Kartikeya from any danger. Their job was to bring him up to boyhood so that he can fight the battle against demons and defeat them. In the end, this is what happened in story.

As we can see that Krittika Nakshatra represents a really difficult time of transformation and turmoil. In our lives, we can relate it with any such time where we have conceived some new ideas (conceiving and bearing a child) for better growth in our lives. Then we initially start working on that idea (birth of child) and then the fear of unknown future (Demons) surrounds us and we get into this mode whether that new idea will yield any result or not in future (whether child will survive or not). In these situations, we need someone to nourish, nurture, protect and care-for that idea so that it can be saved and prosper in future.

This is where we get guidance from opposite nakshatras; i.e. Vishakha and Anuradha.

Vishakha and Anuradha – If we clearly see then the common theme around Vishakha and Anuradha Nakshatras is devotional love of Radha and Krishna. Another name of Vishakha is Radha and Anuradha simply means Following Radha. So, both these nakshatras represent Trust and Devotion which Radha and Krishna had towards each other.

As discussed, Vishakha Nakshatra literally represents split or separate directions/paths for an individual. If we pay attention then we can realize every major change in our life brings two separate paths to follow; which are usually in opposite or split direction. So, Vishakha represents those split directions from which we may have to decide.

Then Vishakha’s another name is Radha. Even the next Nakshatra name is Anuradha which means Following Radha. As Radha was heart’s desire of Lord Krishna, we can also say that Anuradha means Following One’s Heart’s Desires.

This Nakshatra is also linked with trust and devotion which Radha and Krishna had towards each other. So, this Nakshatra is also guiding us to trust the change brought by Universe and pursue one’s heart’s desires with devotion.

So, Krittika represents the fears and insecurities we face while going through any major change in life and opposite nakshatras Vishakha and Anuradha represent trusting the Universe in times of these changes and following the path with utmost devotion.

Where the story of child and his bringing-up under custody of Krittikas is important is that we should have the same trust and devotion towards existence as a child has towards his or her guardians.

Conclusion – Fear and Insecurity are the only Demon in this world. Trust and Devotion are the only God in this world.
