Bharini – Symbolic representations and Metaphors
It comes second in the series of the 27 Nakshatras.
It is one of the four Mlechha (outcast) Nakshatras. It is normally seen that their viewpoints differ a lot from their friends, family and the general society in which they live. There is a desire to go against the societal norms. They cannot relate to the boundaries under which the traditional society functions. People around them fail to understand them and the true acceptance and inclusion by the loved ones remains an elusive dream for them.
It extends from 13 degree 20 mins of Aries to 26 degree 40 mins of Aries.
The literal meaning of Bharini is the one who bears.
Nakshatra Lord - Venus
Sign Lord - Mars
Purpose - Artha
Representation - Female Sexual Organ (Uterus)
Animal Representation- Male Elephant.
Shakti - Apa Bharani Shakti
The power to take away and keep moving on. Bharani has the power to take away something, it allows you to throw something away, put an end to something but continue moving forward.
Ruling Deity – Goddess Kali, the fierce form of Mata Parvati (Shiva Shakti) and Lord Yama co-rule this Nakshatra. Lord Yama is the brother of Lord Saturn who wants you to develop discipline and restraint. Yama is the ruling deity of upholding the code of social morality, deciding whether the deeds done require punishment or rewards. Through the life, whenever this nakshatra gets activated by activation ages and dashas, you shall get frequent doses of punishment/rewards based on the karma. Bharani Nakshatra is associated with the beginning of a new life cycle, and it represents transformative events, birth, creation, and fertility.
Let us understand some metaphors related to the representations of this Nakshatra now.
1. Uterus is the organ in the female body, which has the capability to create something new, from scratch. This can give the Bharini native extreme levels of creativity. Also, this desire to start and create something new can make them very entrepreneurial. With the involvement of the Martian energy (Ruler of Aries), they get an inherent drive too.
2. When the foetus is inside the womb, it is in a very stressful situation. The space is cramped, it is hidden inside the womb, feeling of restriction and lack of space. This can be correlated to the effects that this nakshatra may give the native in the area that Bharani rules in the chart. There can be periods of immense pain and suffering, things related to that area of the chart which Bharini rules might have to be kept hidden. Because you cannot share these, there is no one to support you in the times of agony, like the foetus is alone inside. The cramped space can symbolize the claustrophobia, literally or metaphorically. Eventually, the child comes out and it is a new life, so these pains and sufferings that one is put through will eventually guide one to a new life.
3. Because the Nakshatra Lord is Venus, and the ruling deity Yama is the God of discipline and restraint, so there needs to be a complete transformation in the significations of Venus. Sensuality and materialism that are ruled by Venus need to controlled and kept under a check. Yama is the deity who is supposed to judge all your deeds on the parameters of good versus bad, moral versus immoral, ethical versus unethical, so is seen in Bharini prominent Natives that they have a strong inner conscience. There is, at all times, a judge sitting inside them, which judges all their acts on a scale of good and bad. This can make them very vigilant with regards to their deeds and they can have a peace of mind only if they are morally and ethically correct as per societal norms , especially in areas ruled by Venus – Monetary dealings and Relationships.
4. It is very contradictory that on one hand the purpose of this nakshatra is Artha, that is material prosperity and on the other hand, what is required is restraint. So, there is always a push and pull scenario. You want the significations (money, luxury, love, relationships) but what is needed is morality while achieving them. That is why this is a very testing Nakshatra.
5. Like a mother is very protective, during pregnancy, about the in-growing foetus, she takes care of herself, taking all the medicinal supplements on time, going for the doctor visits on time, there is a sense of discipline. Similarly, the native might be very protective about the significations of the house where Bharani falls in the chart. Those things are like your children, you take care of them, you tend to defend them, and you tend to pamper them.
6. Because it is represented by the female sexual organ, this can give extreme fertility. There is a goddess like energy. But care must be taken, because, with this extreme fertility and coming together of the Venus and Mars energies together, it increases sensuality, and at the same time it may lead to many unwanted pregnancies, diseases and surgeries of the female reproductive organs and probably abortions/miscarriages too (being under general anaesthesia is akin to undergoing death like scenario).
7. Since Lord Yama is associated with death and rebirth, people with prominence of this Nakshatra in their chart, can have a great interest in occult sciences, hidden matters and theories of reincarnation.
8. If Bharini is Associated with Atmakaraka, Rahu, or the 10th lord, these people may do well in professions related to the theme of Bharini. For example, Gynaecologists, Obstetricians, Sex and fertility specialists, working at a mortuary, occultists, past life regression therapists, working with small children as nannies, babysitters, kindergarten teachers, secret agents, working in seed and fertilizer industry etc. On a Rajasic level, this may even manifest as a women who lends her womb to be a surrogate mother. If this Nakshatra is working at a lower level, in a lesser evolved soul, professions related to pornography and trading of sex may also be seen.
9. As Yama is supposed to judge the life and karmas of people to decide for them the next birth, people with this nakshatra prominent can be very judgemental towards others too, they feel they have the right to judge the actions of other people. Can even make them judges professionally.
10. This nakshatra shows a new born child being born. A new born child has no experience and no knowledge of the tricks and trades of surviving in this world. Therefore, there can be a childlike innocence and naivety in dealing with the Bharini ruled areas of life. Bharini prominent individuals can be too trusting at times. Like a curious child, these individuals desire to explore their surroundings to the fullest. However, they are usually more instinctive than reasonable and are often controlled by primordial overwhelming emotions and desires. Without proper guidance, these people, especially in early lives, are likely to indulge in everything that comes their way. It is difficult to restrain their energy; it is like a teenager who has just attained puberty. Proper guidance is a must, unless naturally wise planets like Jupiter/Ketu are situated here.
11. Because of its association with a child and Venus (the karaka of desire for life), these natives can be very adventurous and full of life. They are always looking forward to explore the next possible avenue.
12. As a child is mostly self centred, they can be unaware of how their actions can affect others or have long term implications. They live only in the present, which can be both a good and a bad thing.
13. When a child is born, it has very hazy vision; it is only after a few months that proper vision is developed. In Bharini ruled areas of life, the native may lack clarity in the early life.
14. As a child is very dependent on the caregivers for everything, it is impossible for it survive on its own, similarly, there can be a great dependence on people associated with Bharini ruled areas of life. For example, for an Aquarius ascendant, if moon is in 3rd house in Bharini, there can be too much dependence on the mother or the younger sibling. The eventual aim in this life, for the purpose of soul growth is to become self reliant. Here, since moon is the 6th lord, and it is in Bharini, diseases and enemies may remain hidden for a long time before they seem to appear out of nowhere.
15. They eventually get accustomed to dealing with the upheavals of life; there have been so many transformative events, life and death like scenarios, that they eventually develop great resilience and strength. This can be seen and understood from the animal symbol too. Elephants have a very thick skin which is also water resistant.
16. The animal representation of this nakshatra is an elephant. Elephants are calm animals, which walk slowly and live in groups. People with this nakshatra prominent are very caring towards their family and children. And just like elephants, Even if they are experiencing turbulent emotions inside, they can keep a calm exterior. They are the epitome of honor, status, and respect. They are also known for their aura of royalty and gentleness.
Elephants are also, extremely emotional and the same quality can be seen in Bharini prominent natives too. However, male elephants which are a specific symbol for this Nakshatra moves around in a smaller group as compared to female animals. This may indicate that these people have a very few close people in their lives. This limited social network also corroborates with the outcast nature of this Nakshatra.
17. There is a long brewing time, when the foetus is growing inside the womb of the mother, the material results in the form of a child come out much later, and hence the significations of the area of the chart ruled by Bharini remain hidden from the public eye for a very long time. This can make Bharini natives extremely secretive. Also, although the gynaecologist gives an expected date of delivery for the child to be born, but one is never sure when the water will break. Similarly, one can never predict with precision, the date and time of death. Birth and Death, the two scenarios associated with this nakshatra are both extremely unpredictable, and that makes this nakshatra and the area ruled by it very unpredictable too.
18. Maa Kali, the fierce form of Maa Durga is an alternate deity associated with this nakshatra. She is the destructive form, killing and devouring the demons. This indicates an inner awareness and comprehension of ones internal demons and the inherent ability to consequently destroy them.
As with all other Nakshatras, it is further divided into 4 padas.
The First Pada is ruled by Sun, Leo Navamsa (13.20` - 16.40` Aries)
It is characterized by creativity, determination and sometimes self-centredness. They can hurt others without that being the intent (child like energy)
The Second Pada is ruled by Mercury, Virgo Navamsa (16.40`- 20.00` Aries)
It is associated with great communication skills, business aptitude and wit. They have a natural flair for putting their thoughts in well articulated words.
The Third Pada is ruled by Venus, Libra Navamsa (20.00`- 23.20` Aries) and is associated with financial prosperity, creativity and sensuality. In this pada, there are many creative talents, can give extreme beauty There may be a strong and uncontrolled desire for intimate relationships and sexual unions.
The Fourth Pada is ruled by Mars, Scorpio Navamsa (23.20`-26.40' Aries). Planetary energy here is primordial and uninhibited. Proper guidance and counselling is needed to channelize the energy in a non self destructive way.
